Well done to our technicians Gary Brunsdon, Christian Weaver and Rob Warren for passing BESA GHT02 to become Grease Hygiene Technicians.
They join a nationwide team of Airmec technicians who are qualified to clean commercial kitchen extract systems to a TR19® level. Under UK health and safety requirements, commercial kitchen canopies and extraction systems (including ducts) must be cleaned professionally at least once a year.
At Airmec we follow the BESA TR19® Grease Specification for Fire Risk Management of Grease Accumulation within Kitchen Extraction Systems for all our kitchen extract cleaning jobs. This recognised industry standard for ventilation hygiene requires personnel to hold a GHT (Grease Hygiene) qualification.
In a commercial kitchen the risk of fire from the accumulation of grease deposits within the kitchen’s extract systems is high. As part of the service our technicians will check the grease thickness – since the level of contamination from grease will determine what cleaning regime is needed to restore the ducts and canopy to a safe condition.
“Having an ongoing training programme is extremely important,” commented managing director Andrew Steel. “In a compliance driven business, we need to continually invest in our workforce to ensure we can meet the industry standards and the needs of our clients helping them to remain safe.”
