Hello,
My name is Gary and I’m an air and water technician at Airmec Essential Services.
I wanted to tell you a bit about me and why I’m taking part in the Bristol 10k Shine Night Walk, on September 15th, with the aim of raising funds and awareness for Cancer Research.
In February of this year, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of head and neck cancer. After going through several weeks of intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy I am now at the recovery stage of the treatment.
It has been a long painful, and mentally challenging time. I would never have got this far if it were not for the support from the amazing team at RUH Bath and my family, friends, and colleagues.
I still have a long journey ahead of me and will not know if I’ve gone into remission until later this year. However, for now I want to focus on completing the walk and would appreciate any support that people can give through donations to my giving page so that together, we can beat cancer.
According to Cancer Research, survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years. Consistent progress is being made but improvements to technology and ground-breaking work offer new opportunities to find different ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and improve survival rates even further.
Let’s all help Cancer Research UK improve results even faster. You can visit Gary’s Giving Page or find our more about Cancer Research UK’s work here.
